Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV)

Inquiry

AIDS, an infectious disease caused by the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), is a grave health concern. HIV targets and cripples the immune system, leading to various infections and tumors, with no known cure, eventually resulting in death. HIV is classified into HIV-1 and HIV-2. HIV-1, being more virulent, has a shorter incubation period and higher transmission rate, and is the primary cause of the global AIDS epidemic. In the field of in vitro diagnostics (IVD), GMP proteins can be utilized to manufacture top-quality HIV diagnostic reagents such as enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and chemiluminescent immunoassay (CLIA). These diagnostic reagents can detect HIV-specific antibodies or antigens in blood, urine, saliva, and other samples to diagnose and screen for HIV infection.

HIV-1

The recombinant HIV-1 p24 protein is derived from the p24 gene of the HIV-1 virus and is generated by biotechnology. First, the p24 gene is integrated into a suitable vector using genetic engineering. Then, the vector-carried p24 gene is expressed in cells by cell culture or transgenic technology. Its widespread use in scientific research and IVDs stems from its biological activity, which is similar to the p24 protein of the natural HIV-1 virus. It is used to study the mechanism of HIV-1 replication and infection and as a powerful tool for IVD detection of AIDS.

HIV-2

The recombinant HIV-2 p27 protein is derived from the p27 gene of the HIV-2 virus. Similar to the HIV-1 p24 protein, it is a core component of the virus and plays a crucial role in viral replication and assembly. The protein can be used in scientific research to study the biological properties and infection mechanisms of HIV-2 and to formulate novel IVD reagents and vaccines. Currently, GMP-grade recombinant HIV-2 p27 protein has been used in the production of diagnostic reagents that work by recognizing HIV-2-specific antibodies or antigens in blood, saliva, and other body fluid samples, which has positive implications for the prevention of HIV-2 infection.
